DJG initially was retained to develop a design/build RFP with bridging documents, then work as the design agent of a design/build team. The team was selected to complete a new Corporate Headquarters Building for the Corporate Campus along the Pagan River. The project included a new 50,000+ sf office building with a new 40,000 sf, two-story poured-in-place parking garage.
Development of the 1.73 acre site included grading, paving, curb and gutter, drainage structures, streetscape landscaping, site buffers, pedestrian walkways, and site lighting. The site is in a Chesapeake Bay Resource Management Area. DJG, Inc. worked with town officials for an approved environmentally sensitive drainage design, which includes an underground retention system. This meets the Commonwealth of Virginia’s requirements for stormwater quality and quantity treatment.
The Administration Building is a steel superstructure on wood pile foundation system with masonry exterior walls, and steel (bar-joist) roof framing. The exterior finish is Flemish bond brick to match the existing Smithfield Foods, Inc. Corporate Facility. Architectural features include pre-cast concrete lintels, half-hip dormers, architectural pre-cast concrete balustrade, and decorative iron railings. The building and parking garage are sprinklered for fire protection. The electrical system uses an 800-amp service and the mechanical system includes a 125-ton chiller pipe system with VAV boxes.
